Spinosad: a naturally-occurring antiparasitic compound1
Unlike the systemically absorbed neurotoxic agents found in many of today’s over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription treatments, our active compound derives from a naturally occurring soil microorganism that targets parasites on or within the most superficial layer of the skin (stratum corneum).1
As a result, spinosad is proven to be a highly selective, environmentally friendly, and effective anti-parasitic compound with little or no evidence of toxicity or adverse events, and no known resistance in head lice.1,2,3
Mechanism of Action
Along with a highly sensitive and selective mechanism of action that differs from neurotoxic agents like permethrin and pyrethroids:
Spinosad, the active compound, is not systemically absorbed even in patients as young as six (6) months of age.1,2
